January 2026 Update
January, much like last year, was a little awkward to get into a rhythm this was likely due to the school holidays and a full house. However, that didn't stop me from clocking some health wins, making family memories, and moving a few projects forward.
The Health
I started the month feeling a bit on edge after being sick in December, but that was eased mid-month after my scope, oncology appointment, and immunotherapy session all went well.
The constant lethargy seemed heavier than usual this month, but if that is all I have to complain about, I am very happy.
Even though things have been good lately, I am more conscious than ever of the need to keep making small daily improvements. I’ve added a daily meditation session to my routine, along with time in the sun or, if the clouds won't clear, time in the sauna and a dose of Vitamin D.
Looking ahead, February is shaping up to be a big month. I have a PET scan scheduled, which will be the next major milestone.
The Personal
The month kicked off with Zoe’s 12th birthday. It’s cliché to say, but I truly can’t believe she’s twelve already.
We stayed local this year and decided to do a "Staycation" with some very specific rules to make it feel like a real break. We spent plenty of time by the pool, had a "Hollywood night," and held a family Nintendo Olympics challenge (which I still can't believe I lost!).
The Staycation Rules:

We also caught Tom Gleeson at the Opera House; the Concert Hall truly is an unmatched venue. We saw Tom Odell at the Hordern, too, he was fantastic, though I have to say the acoustics at the Hordern left a little to be desired.
I took a trip with the girls to the Art Gallery and spent some time out at Mackerel to see friends. It’s a stunning part of the world; it feels like the middle of nowhere while being right on our doorstep.
I spent some time doing street photography around Collaroy, though I wasn't particularly happy with the results this time around. You can see the results here.
We ended the month celebrating our 13th Wedding Anniversary at the Star Casino which was a perfect way to cap off January. We even walked away $40 richer!
Finally, I’ve really fallen down the rabbit hole with The New Yorker this month. There is something about their long-form journalism that offers an escape from the daily news cycle. I’ve realised I quite enjoy the depth without the long-term commitment of a full book.
My Project: GenXToday
I’m still chipping away at GenXToday.com. I’m currently refining the site for publication and focusing on the content side of things, as the initial pieces felt a bit rushed.
Recently, I published two pieces would love to get some feedback on; First on Communities: What's happened to them and how can we get them back. And second a review on the film Hamnet.
In the coming week, I’ll also be releasing a piece on compulsory voting in Australia.
I’m hoping to grow this project and eventually bring on sponsors. To do that, I need to grow the newsletter. It would mean the world to me if you subscribed. The more people we have on the list, the easier it is to turn this into a sustainable publication.
Until next month...
