September was a month of transition. After returning home for a period of rest, I finalised the move away from DiMO, allowing me to introduce more practices aimed at keeping this cancer at bay.

My Health

My health continued to be good this month, which was reinforced by an all-clear from my surgeon and another successful immunotherapy session.

While all indicators are positive, I’m keenly aware of being in a similar position last year before the cancer returned in November. That experience has become the anchor for my decision-making. I know that to stay cancer-free, I have to be more proactive in implementing things that will move the needle in the right direction.

One of my main areas of focus in September has been to cultivate a more “Zen” environment at home. I will likely write about this in more depth later, but the essence is to create a tranquil, uncluttered space that helps reduce stress and promotes daily practices for greater mindfulness.

Professional

I don’t normally have a section about my professional life, and it won’t be a regular feature going forward, as I have now sold DiMO. The necessary focus on my wellbeing was the driving force behind selling my business—a choice made to dedicate 100% of my effort to my health.

It was a decision made with a very heavy heart. DiMO was really taking off when I got sick, and I had dedicated years of my life to getting the business to that point. It has been hard watching it stay stagnant since then. Although I streamlined it and kept things working, I wasn’t able to advance it and was in no position to commit to it long-term given my difficult prognosis.

Much of the month was spent working on the handover, which officially took place on October 1st. Although some ongoing support is required and I have mixed feelings about it, I know it is the right decision for my health, my family, and the people who use and contribute to DiMO.

Personal

Despite the heavy focus on work and health, life was full. The month included a couple of proud parent moments, from watching Lexi’s choir performance at the Primary Proms to seeing both kids receive their Term 3 Recognition Awards.

Father’s Day is always difficult given I can’t eat, so to take my mind off that, I celebrated with a family trip to see the F1 Movie.

The social calendar was just as busy, with the Manly Jazz Festival, a few planned dinner parties, watching Panathinaikos play basketball right here in Australia, and following the All Blacks rugby games.

Now onto October, which will be a big month health-wise with a PET scan coming towards the end of it.
