Sept 21 – Another day backwards – no visitors.

Today they put a tube in Spiros’ throat so they can start feeding him. It’s is making him feel really nauseous, is painfull against his swallon throat and the nose. He also can’t talk as well and is coughing again. Having the tube to eat is common after this kind of surgery. I was talking to the speech therapist and she mentioned most patients feedback is that the worst part of the recovery is the swallowing, mucus, coughing, gagging feeling and feeding tube. My observation seeing Spiros is he is suffering all these things....

Spiros had the best night sleep so far last night. In fact, when I went to visit he was asleep! Being the good wife, I did not wake him, so only have text messages to say he is feeling better and open to visitors. So an update on the girls instead…Zoe is missing dad but...

Not a lot has changed overnight – still a lot of swelling and speaking is difficult. Main priority for Spiros today is to try get some sleep, which continues to be difficult. He is still not up for visitors today, but is pretty sure he will be tomorrow. He does look better on the outside...

Spiros second surgery today to remove the cancer went well. The robotic surgery was able to remove the lump in one go – the surgeon was extremely pleased with the result. He is now in a ward at St Vincents hospital recovering. He can’t speak yet and is on morphine for the pain so mainly...

Well the big operation is tomorrow (14 September).
It’s been a weird week trying to recover from the first operation. I had expected that every day would get a little better and by this time I would be feeling relatively good and ready to go, however, it hasn’t been like that.
Everyday new pains seem to come...

1st operation finished successful. Thanks heaps for Vanessa, Shu and Jamie for being there when I came out.
Was a bit more than I expected but all things considered apart from the pain all is good.
The main initial pain was muscle pain in the shoulder. Nurses, doctors and support staff all excellent!
