my journey

September Update

The Health

The month started off with great news on the Cancer front with my tests showing that was NED (no evidence of disease) and continued on the 17th when I had an infusion of infliximab to bring the Colitis under control, however on this although initial reaction was positive, one infusion was not enough and have a few more to go before hopefully bringing it under control.

The only thing that makes me a bit nervous is that they won’t resume my immunotherapy until they detect more cancer. To ensure they get onto this as quickly as possible I will continue having PET scans every three months and surgeon scopes in between to check for cancer. When cancer is detected they will restart the immunotherapy straight away, which is reassuring.

In the meantime I continue to work hard at ensuring I stay healthy by focusing on what I can do physically, mentally and nutrition wise to keep Cancer at bay.

The Personal

I continue to work on my process to stay well, I call it “Greekology”. This involves focusing on being disciplined in my approach to health and creating good moments with family and friends and having moments of reflection to ensure that I am doing those well.

This month I introduced blended food into my diet to mix in with the formula that I have been having till now. One of the advantages of not having to taste what you eat is you can pretty much eat the most healthiest food combinations possible, with the only challenge being to get enough calories in a day that go down the tube.

I use the blenders of all blenders a Vitamix and have two meals per day this way.

Meal 1 consists of

  • Almond Milk
  • Frozen Berries
  • handful of grains
  • handful of nuts
  • tablespoon of Olive oil
  • salt
  • 1/2 banana
  • Activated Turmeric capsules
  • Whole Apple
  • Whole Orange
  • Manuka Honey
  • Lots of water
Meal 2 consists of

  • full avocado
  • handful of nuts
  • large handful of spinach leaves
  • broccoli
  • mixed beans
  • Whole apple
  • 1/2 banana
  • tablespoon Olive oil
  • water

This month I also managed to get out and do a lot of things, my focus has been trying to make all seven days of the week count rather than fall into the Sydney trap of living for Saturday afternoon and perhaps Sunday. This month during the week I managed a visit Art Gallery with girls to see Archibald, several walks, PowerUp Festival, Monday comedy night at the Oaks and the Year 5 dance Garla :-).

The other thing I do now is at least once a month is I get away by myself somewhere close to Sydney to just reflect on how things are going and improvements I can make. The plan is I leave on a Thursday morning and return on a Friday evening. This month I headed off to Blue Mountains which I really enjoyed, I journaled my experience here.

Until the next month…
